Ex-UTEP Football Player Arrested For Alleged Assault On Girlfriend

Aaron King, a former football player with UTEP, was arrested Friday morning on family violence charges.

He was charged with Assault Family Violence ( Misdemeanor ), Assault Family Violence Impede Breath or Circulation ( Felony ) and Interference with Emergency Call ( Misdemeanor ). King also had various traffic related misdemeanor warrants and was booked on those as well. His bond for the new charges totaled: $8500.

El Paso Police officers from the city’s Westside Regional Command Center responded twice Thursday morning to reports of a domestic disturbance and unknown problem. The first call was received just after 1:00 a.m. and officers learned that King’s 23-year-old girlfriend had allegedly been choked by 24-year-old King.

King had fled the apartment prior to the officers arrival. As officers were filing a warrant for King’s arrest King returned to the apartment just before 5:00 a.m. Police were called again and upon arrival found the front door to be kicked in and no people at the apartment. Police began to search for the victim and King, according to police officials.

After locating the victim, who had left her apartment voluntarily, police learned that King had returned, broke in the door and assaulted the victim by punching her in the face, police said. Police said King also took his girlfriend’s phone away as she was calling police.

Police were able to locate King nearby at 5801 Mesa where he was placed under arrest and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.

King played his junior and senior years at UTEP after playing at a junior college. During his senior year in 2009, King played in all 12 games as a defensive lineman.
