UTEP Issues Test Of Alert System

A Miner Alert message that went out to The University of Texas at El Paso campus community Tuesday afternoon was a test, according to UTEP officials. There was no emergency on campus.

The alert, sent out just after 2 p.m., stated that a possible threat had been identified on campus and that people should seek shelter. A second message immediately thereafter stated that the alert was a test.

The text message system was being tested and the message was inadvertently sent to the campus community. UTEP students, faculty, staff and visitors should rest assured that the campus is safe.

UTEP’s emergency management team is working to ensure that in an emergency situation, everyone on campus will be notified in a timely manner and instructed on what to do to stay safe.
