Teen Dead After Northeast El Paso Shooting

An investigation into a Saturday night shooting in northeast El Paso continues. Police are still looking for the gunman, and the victim’s family is looking for justice.

The shots rang out around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the 10400 block of Kendall St.

Family members of 19 year old Isaiah Luna told ABC-7 they are heartbroken and in disbelief he will not be coming home.

“He was the most kindest, caring person on earth,” Tiana Medrano, Luna’s cousin, said.

As family gathered outside Luna’s home Sunday evening, cousin Paul Cano says Luna was his best friend. “I still think I’m in a dream…that I’m gonna wake up and he’s gonna walk through the door,” Cano said.

Luna’s family will never understand why anyone would want to kill him, Cano said.

“None of us ever thought that that would happen, in a million years,” Cano said.

But Saturday night, Cano’s worst nightmare came true.

Police said Luna was with a friend inside his white Chevy Caprice when a gunman in another car drove up and fired multiple rounds, with at least one bullet striking Luna in the head. Luna was taken to University Medical Center where police said Luna took his final breath early Sunday morning.

“My body just felt like it had shut down,” Medrano said. “It’s hard to say that somebody who would text me everyday, and not only me but all of us, and say he loved us and he’s always gonna be there for us no matter what and be safe…and the one time that something happens, it has to be him.”

Neighbors said Luna was always polite when they saw him, and they are shocked by his death.

“Yesterday he was here and today he’s gone,” Adelina Gibson, who lives nearby, said. “It’s sad, it really is sad because he was very young.”

Gang investigators are looking into this case.

“I don’t know what that person’s motive was but I hope they go down,” Cano said.

Luna’s cousins told ABC-7 there are known gangs in the area but they emphasized, Luna was not in one, and was planning to join the United States Air Force.
