East Side Warehouse Fire Causes $100K In Damage

The El Paso Fire Department was called to a warehouse fire on the city’s east side Saturday afternoon.

A fire department spokesman said more than 50 firefighters were called to battle the blaze in the 11300 block of James Watt Drive.

The building’s sprinkler system activated, but was unable to reach the fire due to large piles of baled cardboard and Styrofoam material.

According to fire officials, the fire was quickly extinguished but extensive smoke and water had to be removed from the building.

The spokesman said the majority of the damage was due to water damage from the sprinkler system and is valued at $100,000.

There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigations.
