UPDATE: Police ID Man Stabbed To Death At Rescue Mission

Update: El Paso Police have identified the man that was stabbed to death on Friday at the Rescue Mission as Joseph Anthony Powell, 22. Clarence Roper has been charged with murder.

Previous Story: El Paso Police have charged a 50-year-old man in the stabbing death of a man at the Rescue Mission of El Paso in the 1900 block of W. Paisano.

El Paso Police have charged Clarence Edward Roper, 50, with murder in the man’s death after the two were involved in a verbal altercation and Roper allegedly produced a knife and stabbed him.

The victim was transported to University Medical Center (UMC) where he died. Roper was seen running up a flight of stairs as Central Patrol officers arrived, according to police.

Roper was taken into custody and charged with murder. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a bond of $250,000.00. The identity of the victim will be released as soon as next of kin is notified.

Police said this is the fifth of sixth homicides in El Paso this year.
