Homeless Prevention Assistance Available
The City of El Paso ‘s Department of Community and Human Development received a grant through the Federal Stimulus Program for $2.1 million to provide emergency prevention assistance. The City has partnered with the County of El Paso to administer the program.
The importance of this grant is that it targets people who are in imminent danger of becoming homeless.
Depending on a family’s or individual’s needs, the amount of assistance will vary, however the County can provide up to 36 months of rental assistance, including up to 3 months of arrearages for individuals and /or families who are facing eviction.
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be a U.S. citizen, legal permanent resident or qualified aliens.
You must not make more than 50 percent of the Area’s Median Income.
Ex. Single person cannot earn more than $15,950
Family of four cannot earn more than $22,800
The household must be at risk of losing its housing; AND meet both of the following circumstances:
o No appropriate subsequent housing options have been identified;
o The household lacks the financial resources and support networks needed to remain in its existing housing.
NOTE: Mortgage payments are NOT eligible under this program.
If eligible, the client will be issued an assistance verification card and it will take approximately 20 working days for an assistance payment to be processed.
