UPDATE: Woman Accused Of Shoplifting Had Other Children With Her

An affidavit exposes brand new details about the mother who decided to shoplift at a local Albertson’s with her 13-year-old son.

The affidavit revealed Rita Vargas didn’t just bring her son while shoplifting, she brought all of her children. According to the affidavit, 28-year-old Vargas fled the scene with her other children and left her 13-year-old son behind as a store employee approached them.

Vargas was later arrested on suspicion of theft of more than $50 and less than $500. She was booked early Sunday and is now out on a $300 bond.

According to the affidavit, Vargas instructed her son to walk through the grocery line without paying at the Albertson’s grocery store in the 9100 block of Dyer Street. When they were approached by an employee, police say, Vargas ran out of the store, leaving her son behind.

An ABC-7 crew was at the scene as police put Vargas’ son in a police car. Police said a loss prevention officer at the Albertson’s store confronted the pair.

The employee told police that he stopped the boy, who had pushed the shopping cart out of the store, but that the mother ran out of a different door with the other children.

The boy has also been charged with theft.
