Visitors Bureau Unveils Its Phone Application

After months of waiting, the El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau unveiled it own cellphone application, which directs people to restaurants, hotels and local attractions of interest.

Piata Publishing, publisher of the official visitors guide for the El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau, announced that the application — “Visit El Paso” — was a response to the evolving digital market.

“I think that the mobile device market is really going to change how visitors get information, even more than websites,” said Don Baumgardt, owner and publisher of Piata Publishing. “Because of the portability, users will be able to find places of interest quickly and easily. This app was developed with the visitor in mind.”

The application was created by Phidev Inc. It includes more than 100 points of interest such as restaurants, hotels and local attractions. It also features a “Near Me” function, which displays nearby locations according to your location using GPS coordinates.

The application is available for free through Apple’s iTunes Store and can be downloaded onto any Apple supported device such as an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Piata Publishing and Phidev Inc. will continue to update the Apple version of the application and will deliver an Android version by next month.
