Aggie Golfers Play Strong at New Mexico Collegiate Cup

Truth or Consequences, N.M. ? Senior Zachery Fullerton won the 2012 New Mexico Collegiate Cup Saturday, with a two-round score of 12-under par, 132. This was an individual event, as seven Aggies participated at the par 72, 7,013 yard Sierra Del Rio Golf Club in Truth or Consequences, N.M.

?I feel that we accomplished what we set out to do in today?s tournament,? head coach Mike Dirks said. ?We haven?t played competitive golf for a few months and this was a tournament that allowed us to get back into competitive golf and into scoring mode. Guys like Zach and Justin can hopefully build off this tournament while others know what they need to begin to work on to get ready for Rice.?

Junior Justin Shin finished second with a two-round score of 7-under par, 137. Senior Gaston De La Torre was 5-over par, 149 in two rounds, as junior Derek Baade carded a 7-over par, 151 in two rounds. Senior Miko Alejandro shot a two-round score of 13-over par, 157, while freshman Simon Miller was 16-over par, 160 after two rounds of play.

The Aggies will be back on the course on Feb. 20-21 at the Rice Intercollegiate in Houston , Texas .
