Indicted NM Judge Resigns Post

ABC-7 learned late Wednesday afternoon that indicted New Mexico District Judge Michael Murphy has resigned.

Judge Murphy’s resignation was was confirmed to ABC-7 by Chief District Judge Douglas Driggers. Murphy was arrested by New Mexico State Police in July of 2011.

According to officials, Murphy is accused of funneling bribes for judicial appointments to former Governor Bill Richardson, who call the allegations “Outrageous and defamatory.”

Chief Judge Driggers tells ABC-7 the terms of Murphy’s resignation do not permit him to ever hold office again.

The criminal case against Murphy is still pending.
