Fort Bliss Soldier Dies In Vehicle Crash

A Fort Bliss soldier died on Saturday in a vehicle accident in Bahrain, according to Fort Bliss officials.

Cesar Cortez, 24, of the 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, was serving as a network switching systems operator-maintainer with the Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade. He was deployed in Bahrain since December of 2011.

The crash is still under investigation.

Cortez, originally from Oceanside, Calif., had joined the Army last March and arrived at Fort Bliss in October 2011.
