Multiple Accidents Shut Down U.S. Highway 70; At Least 2 Injured

Officials with the Las Cruces Police Department closed a portion of U.S. Highway 70 near the Sonoma Ranch exit just east of Las Cruces Monday afternoon due to two separate wrecks.

Police said at least three vehicles were involved in the crashes. One of them involved a truck that rolled over onto the eastbound lanes of Bataan Memorial East. The pickup then struck by a vehicle traveling along Bataan Memorial East.

Officials said at least two people were injured in the wrecks, one of them is a young child. They were flown to University Medical Center in El Paso for treatment.

Traffic was shut down on U.S. 70 from Mesa Grande Drive to Rinconada Boulevard and reopened by 7 p.m.
