Former El Pasoan’s Film Gets Oscar Nomination
The Academy Awards are a little more than a week away, but one El Paso mother has a little more interest in this year’s awards ceremony.
El Paso’s very own Gigi Causey is up for an Oscar this year for her work producing a short film called ”Time Freak.”
Causey spent nearly 20 years living in El Paso before eventually moving to New York to pursue her career in the business.
Her parents said she had always been a creative child and eventually was drawn to the film industry when she attended college.
“I always knew she was going somewhere,” said Anna Causey, Gigi’s mother.
The 11-minute long film is about a neurotic inventor who creates a time machine to fix the past. Movie.com describes the film as ”Groundhog Day” meets ”Back to the Future.”
This isn’t the only film the former El Pasoan has been working on.
“Lately she’s been working on A films such as ”Safehouse” as a production supervisor. ”Safehouse” is [the movie with] with Denzel Washington that just released last Friday,” said Anna Causey.
”Time Freak” will be shown at the Tinseltown theater in east El Paso on Feb. 24 at 12:30, 4:15 and 8 p.m.
The Oscars will be aired on Sunday, February 26 at 6:30 p.m.
