Reyes’ Statement On Woman Shot In Downtown El Paso

Congressman Silvestre Reyes (D-TX) released the following statement in response to the 48-year-old woman who was struck by a stray bullet in downtown El Paso on Tuesday morning:

“I am in communication with local officials and have expressed my full support as they continue investigating this isolated incident. I am also in consultation with federal governmental entities to support any additional security precautions that may be necessary and will remain engaged to assist in the development of any future risk assessment strategies.

“My thoughts are with the victim and her family at this time. I am praying for a speedy and full recovery. This incident highlights the unique challenges confronted by our city. While El Paso remains the safest large city in the country, our lives are closely connected and impacted by the ongoing situation in Ciudad Juarez. I remain committed to supporting increased U.S.-Mexico cooperation to help our neighbors confront the cartel syndicates wreaking havoc across our border.”
