Closures In Area Due To Weather

Road Conditions for Southern New Mexico – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and local law enforcement offices are extending the closure of I-10 to the Arizona State line. The closure is in affect due to high winds with reduced visibility and dust that this sweeping across the roadways.

The NMDOT has extended this closure as a precaution to secure a safe environment for the traveling public. Motorists are encouraged to avoid any travels until conditions change.

Closures for southern New Mexico are as follows:

– 10 from Las Cruces to Arizona State Line – US-180 from Deming to Hurley (south of Silver City) – NM-11 from Deming to Columbus

Traffic updates are posted on the NMDOT traffic advisory web-site at www.nmroads.com and can be retrieved through our automated system at 511 or 1-800-432-4269.

The City of El Paso Landfill closed early today (March 7, 2012) due to low visibility associated with the high winds that swept into the region, the city’s Environmental Services Department announced.

The landfill, at 2300 Darrington Road near Clint, will close about two hours early today to the general public to ensure the safety of Environmental Services customers and employees.

The landfill will resume normal operating hours tomorrow. The landfill is normally open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Canutillo ISD canceled all student extra-curricular activities for the afternoon and evening.

Please be advised that other adult activities throughout the CISD, like the District Advisory Committee meeting and the special meeting of the CISD Board of Trustees, will go on as scheduled.

Girls fast pitch softball games scheduled tonight (March 7, 2012) at Northeast Regional Park, 11270 McCombs St. and Memo Villarreal Fields, 4321 Delta St. have been postponed tonight due to high winds. Teams will need to check www.quickscores.com/elpaso for updates to their schedules.
