Las Cruces Police: Parents Arrested After Their 4 Children Test Positive For Cocaine
Las Cruces Police have arrested the parents of four children who recently tested positive for cocaine, according to police officials.
Eric Lee Estrada, 30, and Stacey Carreras, 26, both of 2250 Missouri Ave. in Las Cruces, were arrested Wednesday and charged with four counts each of negligent child abuse.
Child Protective Services was investigating the couple for alleged drug use because the children – ages 1, 2, 5 and 8 – had tested positive for cocaine in the past, according to police.
Police said that between Jan. 27 and March 27, Estrada and Carreras both allegedly smoked cocaine in their home while their children were present and drug tests performed on the children by a private laboratory revealed that they all tested positive for cocaine.
The children have been placed in the temporary custody of the state.
Estrada and Carreras are both being held on $25,000 cash-only bonds at the Dona Ana County Detention Center .
