El Paso In Running For Social Media Symposium

El Paso is one of four cities vying for chance to host the 2012 Social Media Tourism Symposium.

The voting is all done via Facebook, and now the El Paso Convention and Visitors Bureau wants your help putting the Sun City in the finals.

The purpose of the symposium, which is now in its third year, is to learn how social media impacts promotion within the travel and tourism industry. Representatives from hotels, resorts, and marketing organizations come together to share ideas and discuss the benefits of social media.

What makes the selection process for the host city unique is the fact that community residents themselves determine the winner via Facebook. El Paso beat out San Marcos, Texas, in round one, then knocked of Buffalo-Niagara, N.Y. in round two. The roadblock to the finals is now Cleveland, which has been putting up huge numbers.

The voting for round three will take place today only from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. To vote, go to facebook.com/sometourism, “like” the page and then cast your vote.

This year’s symposium will take place on Nov. 7-9. It’s expected to draw about 250 tourism professionals from all over the country.
