Stahmann Farms Country Stores Closing In Southern New Mexico

After almost 30 years in business the Stahmann Farms Country Store located on Highway 28, south of Las Cruces, is closing its doors.

A slow economy is forcing the company to close not only it’s country store but also it’s candy plant and Old Mesilla store. The plant will remain open as it has since 1932.

Loads of shoppers were present taking advantage of sales on pecans and pecan products, something store manager Eva Valerio wished had happened sooner to keep the business running. She said her store employs 10 people, most of whom will find jobs elsewhere in the company.

Many of the employees are third generation employees. It’s a very sad time for store customers who must go elsewhere for a unique shopping experience. The store will remain open until all product is gone…and it is going fast. They want to thank everyone for their patronage.

Eva Valerio, Stahmann’s Farms Country Store Manager, said “We were hoping the economy would turn around but with the high cost of fuel, the high cost of materials to make the product and everything that goes with it…it just keeps growing and we can’t continue to run the business that way.”

Sally Smith, a customer at the store, said the closing is tragic.

“This is so unique to this area,” Smith said. “It makes it very special to send gifts from here.”

Stahmann Farms Country store is located at 22505 Highway 28 and is open everyday from 10 a.m. To 5 p.m.
