Update: Alleged Wrong-Way Driver Charged With Intoxicated Assault
El Paso Police have identified the man they say drove the wrong way on I-10 Monday morning, causing two accidents.
Pedro Aguero, 27, of the 1300 block of E. Rio Grande, has been charged with intoxicated assault.
According to El Paso Police, Aguero was drivinga silver Nissan Altima eastbound on I-10 in the westbound lanes at 2:38 a.m. Monday when the driver of a Ford F-150 truck swerved to avoid Aguero.
The F-150 driver then struck a cement barrier causing damage to the truck. There were no injuries reported in this collision. Aguero continued going the wrong way on I-10 West and collided head-on with a white Ford Ranger that had three occupants at 2:40 a.m. at Mile Post 25.
The three occupants of the Ranger were transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Aguero was booked into the El Paso County Jail on three counts of Intoxicated Assault with a Motor Vehicle and his bonds totaled $45,000.
