El Paso Zoo Welcomes New Tiger; Zoo Trying To Prevent Second Love Triangle
El Paso Zoo’s newest addition is a 13-year-old male Malayan tiger
Belahat has been brought to the zoo to mate with three-year-old Seri as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan.
Zoo officials described Belehat as smart, mellow, and a “proven breeder.”
Last September, Seri unexpectedly killed her mate Wzui in the tiger exhibit. Zoo officials had said there was a tiger love triangle before the killing occurred.
Zoo officials will keep Seri and Belahat separate and will only allow full contact during her reproductive cycle.
