Restaurants Prepare For Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is considered the busiest day of the year for restaurants. The kitchen at Cappetto’s restaurant in Central El Paso is already busy. The staff was taking advantage of the lull in the lunch rush Wednesday to prepare for Sunday by chopping cuts of meat and preparing vegetables.
“I’m not cooking,” exclaimed Aliana Apodaca, laughing as she ate her lunch in the corner of the restaurant. “That’s the day that women want to be pampered, and most of us do the cooking, and so we don’t want to do that on our special day.”
Cappetto’s owner, Edward Davis, expects a packed dining room, what with Mother’s Day and college graduations falling on the same weekend this year.
“We take reservations, and that helps give us an idea of how busy it’s going to be,” said Davis. “We’ve been really flooded with reservations.”
To prepare, Davis and the kitchen staff beefed up their food supply by 50 percent.
“Oh, we’ll probably go through a couple thousand pounds this weekend,” Davis said, adding that it may even be more than that.
While crowds may be a deterrent for some, mother Aliana Apodaca has this advice: “I think it’s a good way to show some appreciation for mom. So take her out.”
Keep in mind that Mother’s Day is Thursday in Mexico, which also may add to the crowds this weekend.
