Burglars Steal Multiple Guns From Shop
Two gun shops were burglarized overnight Monday and El Paso Police said the suspects are on the loose with stolen weapons.
El Paso Police Spokesman Chris Mears on Friday confirmed to ABC-7 that suspected burglars broke in to Sportsman Elite, located near Mesa and Remcon, and stole several guns.
Mears would not say how many or what kind of weapons the alleged thieves took from the store. The burglary happened overnight Monday. An employee who answered the phone at Sportsman Elite said they had ‘no comment’ on the reported burglaries.
A few miles and minutes before that break-in, suspected burglars also tried to get into another gun shop — Country Wide Shooters near Sunland Park and Doniphan at about 1 a.m. Monday,
The suspected thieves shattered a front window with a rock, but were unable to enter the store because of security bars and an effective security system.
“We have video systems, we have microphones, we have cameras, we have sensors, we have safes,” said Hector Garcia, who works at Country Wide Shooters.
The big rock that the would-be robbers presumably used to shatter the window is now on display at the store.
“These guys seem like they were smash-and-grab-type criminals. They did secure the power to the entire building. But we have battery backups to all our stuff and cameras and alarms,” said Garcia.
He said there were between three and six male suspects. Garcia also said the store’s surveillance video was given to law enforcement agencies.
“Usually people don’t try to mess with gun shops because everyone there has guns,” said Garcia. Though, after hours, that situation changes.
