Solar Eclipse: Best Spots To Watch In The Borderland
The borderland will be seeing it’s first annular solar eclipse in 18 years on Sunday evening.
The eclipse will begin at 6:33 p.m. and peak with the most coverage of the sun at 7:39 p.m. then continue until sunset. Most areas should have prime viewing conditions with mostly clear to clear skies, except for areas east of Guadalupe Pass, which could see partly cloudy conditions tonight.
There are even a few eclipse parties going on around town.
The Amateur Astronomers Group and the New Mexico Museum of Space History are hosting an event in the museum’s parking lot to safely witness the 2012 annular eclipse. This event is free and open to the public beginning at 6:30 pm on Sunday. For more information on this event, visit their website.
In Las Cruces, there will be a sunset solar eclipse viewing party hosted by the NMSU Astronomy department at the Mesilla Valley Mall in the southwest corner of the parking lot. The event will feature free public viewing with solar telescopes as well as activities for the whole family. Safe sun-viewing glasses will be available for $1 at the event.
