Did you know; El Paso Diablos
Hello sports fans, Asher the Wildman here at Cohen Stadium.
I know as the new, I still have a lot to learn about the local sports here in El Paso. Today though, I hope to educate you a bit on the El Paso Diablos, by asking you…
Did you know that Syd Cohen was the last pitcher to strike out Babe Ruth?
Syd though is most remembered for his contributions to minor league baseball.
Cohen stadium is named after him and his brother Andy.
Did you know that in 1972 actor Kurt Russell use to play for the El Paso Sun Kings?
In fact, that year he lead the Texas League with a batting average of .532.
So what happened to this prospect?
Russell tore his rotator cup in a collision at second base, ultimately sending him back to the big screens and preventing from joining the big leagues.
Did you know that flame thrower Randy Johnson pitched for the Diablos while on a rehabilitation tour in 2003?
Did you know that during phase A of the Cohen Stadium construction in 1989, they discovered the stadium was being built on an old firing range where unexploded bombs may be resting.
With that said, I’m going to blow on out of here…
