Diablos Drop Second Straight To T-Bones
Three more errors, a wild pitch and a passed ball doomed the Diablos chances to even up their series with the Kansas City T-Bones, as El Paso fell in game two by a final of 9-6.
The Diablos answered nearly every scoring frame for the T-Bones with ones of their own, but Kansas City put up multiple runs in the second, third, and fifth innings on their way to a second straight nine-run output against El Paso. The backbreaking inning for the Diablos came in the fifth, when with the bases loaded and one out, two straight pitches from reliever Ronny Morla ended up at the backstop, scoring two runs to give Kansas City a 7-3 lead.
The T-Bones would add one more run in the fifth to push the lead to five runs, before closing out their scoring with an insurance run in the seventh.
The Diablos rallied in the eighth, scoring three runs on a two-run homer by Jonathan Cisneros (only the second all year for El Paso) and an RBI single by Maikol Gonzalez. Bryan Frichter grounded out to end the inning against reliever Sean Toler, however, and Toler retired the side in the ninth for his first save of 2012.
El Paso starter Osvaldo Rodriguez (1-2) failed to complete five innings for the second straight start to fall to suffer his second loss of the season. Meanwhile, T-Bones starter Nick Singleton (2-1) was good enough to go six innings giving up three runs on nine hits and earn his second victory.
The series finale is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Wedesday at Cohen Stadium. The scheduled starters are Scott Hodsdon for the Diablos and left hander Devin Anderson for the T-Bones.
