Man Wanted In Socorro, Texas Homicide Taken Into Custody
On June 6, 2012, one of El Paso’s most wanted, RICARDO ZUNIGA was taken into custody by El Paso County Sheriff’s Detectives and the United States Marshals Service.
On June 22, 2009 a double Homicide occurred at the A&M Sports Bar located at 11638 Alameda Av. Socorro, Texas. Jose Vargas (37) years of age and his Brother Jesus Vargas Jr. (46) years of age, both residents of Socorro, TX., were murdered in the parking lot of the bar. A warrant of arrest was issued for RICARDO ZUNIGA shortly after the murder had occurred and it was believed that he had fled to Mexico in order to avoid prosecution.
Over the past three years, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office along with the U.S. Marshal’s Service, D.E.A., El Paso County District Attorney’s Office, F.B.I. and U.S. Customs & Border Protection have been working together in a combined effort to bring ZUNIGA back to the United States to answer for the murder of the Vargas brothers.
On 06/05/2012 RICARDO ZUNIGA was taken into custody in Juarez, Mexico where he was turned over to Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Crimes Against Persons (CAP) Detectives and United States Marshal’s Service Deputies at approximately 11:00 PM. ZUNIGA was placed under arrest for Capital Murder and booked into the El Paso County Detention facility with NO BOND.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to express their thanks to all of the agencies both in the United States and in Mexico who assisted in the apprehension of this “Most Wanted Fugitive.
