Authorities Identify Man Shot By El Paso Police Officer

Police have identified a man shot and killed by a police officer Friday in the Lower Valley.

Police say the officer, a 12-year veteran of the force, shot 56-year-old Bernardo Gutierrez Morales, when he allegedly pulled out a knife and lunged at the officer.

It happened about 8 a.m. near Prado Road and Alameda Avenue in the Lower Valley. A police spokesman said a resident nearby called police about a suspicious man in the area.

The unidentified officer has been placed on administrative duty.
