UPDATE: Man injured in four-vehicle pileup dies

A man injured in a four-car pileup Friday in the Lower Valley died, investigators said.

Officers with the El Paso Police Department’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit said 23-year-old Adrian Hernandex died from his injuries on Saturday afternoon.

He was a back seat passenger in a 2006 Nissan Altima investigators said lost control and veered into oncoming traffic about 11 p.m. in the 9600 block of Alameda. The Altima and a Ford Escape were headed east when the Altima hit a Saturn and a Mercury Tracer heading West on Alameda, causing the pile up.

Fifteen people were injured, three of them seriously, including Hernandez.

Though investigators continue to look into the crash, they suspect speed was a factor.

Herndez’s death is the city’s 40th traffic death as compared with 46 at this time last year.
