UTEP’s X’s & O’s Callers

We all know that Sean Kugler is the head coach of the UTEP Miners, but after a disappointing season in which the Miners struggled on both sides of the ball, many fans have been anxiously awaiting who Kugler would choose to run the x’s and o’s. Today it became official when he introduced former Miners assistant Patrick Higgins to run the offense.

“I knew Sean back from high school and then when we coached here,” new UTEP Offensive Coordinator Patrick Higgins said. “We had a great relationship when we won the WAC in 2000 and have kept in contact with our progress.”

Jeff Choate was chosen to lead the defense.

“we have to maximize the talent we have here to put our kids in the best position to win,” new UTEP defensive Coordinator Jeff Choate said. “I think coach Patterson (former UTEP assistant) did a tremendous job of laying a great foundation on the defensive side of the ball, and we’re excited about continuing that.”

When asked if he would have any say in play calling, UTEP Head Coach Sean Kugler was very clear in answering that. “I’m not going to call play,” Kugler said. “My main thing will be to manage the coaches, and they will manage the players, and I’ll manage the whole operation with these guys doing a great job.”

Both coaches have already started to evaluate UTEP players and watch film of who they will be coaching, but until the 2013 season kicks off we’ll just have to wait and see how the new look UTEP miners will be.
