Choate an Intense Coach

First year defensive coordinator Jeff Choate is an intense guy.

“If I had to describe him with just one word it would probably be fire,” UTEP defensive back Wesley Miller chuckled. “he’s good at always yelling at us and getting the intensity up.”

“Some days they probably like it, and some days they probably don’t” Miners Defensive Coordinator Jeff Choate said.

The new leader calling the shots for the Miners defense this year knows what he wants in a player and is hoping to impress some fans in the stands.

“I’m looking for the kid that loves the game of football,” Choate explained. “He has to have the passion and doesn’t have to be a five star athlete, but a five star person.”

Last season when the Miners gave up about 30 points a game it resulted in a 3-9 year.

If the Miners hope to have a bounce back year then the defense will have to have a drastic improvement.

“There’s some guys still swimming or because of injuries here or there,” Choate said. “Guys need to step up and rise, because we are not going to take our foot off the pedal.”

Coach Choate jokes that he has one or two more plays left in him for the field, but he’s hoping to lead from the sidelines and that his players match his intensity come game day.
