Guadalupe Montanez Perez, Anthony ISD School Board candidate

NAME Guadalupe Montanez Perez
OFFICE YOU SEEK School Board Trustee
AGE 39
OCCUPATION Campus Instructional Coordinator
EDUCATION Masters in Education Administration with Principal Certification, currently attending Sul Ross State University to acquire my Superintendent Certification.
FAMILY Married for 18 years to Ismael Perez and have three beautiful children: Dahlia Perez – 16 years, Nadia Perez – 11 years and Ryan Perez – 7 years old.
NUMBER-ONE CAMPAIGN FOCUS: To continue to provide a positive change for academic advancement, student support and extra-curricular activities.
WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM YOUR OPPONENTS? My advanced educational credentials and the perspectives because of my first hand experience in education. I am well aware of the educational needs of the students being a life-long member of the Anthony community.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE THAT QUALIFIES YOU FOR THE POSITION YOU SEEK: I am currently a School Board Trustee seeking my second term. I currently serve as the School Board President and have been the School Board Secretary as well. Professionally, I am an Instructional Coordinator and have worked in education for more than 10 years.
IF YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO REVOKE ONE ORDINANCE IN Anthony IMMEDIATELY UPON TAKING OFFICE, WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE?
There is not one specific ordinance that I would revoke. I feel that every ordinance that is in place serves a purpose. As long as our District continues to comply with State issued mandates I feel comfortable that we are doing the right thing for all students.
DESCRIBE A MOMENT THAT CHANGED YOUR LIFE: A life changing event for me was graduating from college. I believe that education is the key to success that opens many doors for personal achievement and gratification. By obtaining my education and continuing to learn, I strive to be a role model for my children and the community so that they can see that with perseverance anything is possible.
IN WHAT WAYS IS Anthony ON THE RIGHT TRACK, AND IN WHAT WAYS DOES IT NEED TO CHANGE COURSE?
Anthony ISD has always been a small district that belonged to the community. We, as current Trustees, continue to fight for equal opportunities and advancements for our students. Our campuses have made great strides in standardized testing and identifying students who need additional assistance to be successful. I am proud to say that the elementary campus has finally moved towards the right track in identification, implementation and achievement of at-risk students.
Although our campuses are moving towards the right direction, I would like to see our community continue to support these changes and voice their opinions and concerns to the board. We are a voice for the community’s children and their concerns should be heard. I want our District to be the District of choice as it once was in where students from across the County wanted to come here. I want our District to continue to move forward with humility, understanding and compassion for ALL students.
IF ELECTED, HOW WILL YOU BALANCE THE NEEDS OF FAMILY, YOUR CAREER AND YOUR OFFICE? Balancing a career, family, education and my office at times has been a challenge, but when your goal is educational success, time and effort is a must.
WHEN AND WHY DID YOU COME TO Anthony (IF APPLICABLE)? I am a lifelong resident and graduate of Anthony, Texas. I graduated from AISD in 1992 and worked for the district from 1999-2003.
