City names interim El Paso Dept. fire chief

Assistant Chief Carlos Carmona has been named interim fire chief for the El Paso Fire Department.

Carmona is a native El Pasoan and has served in the El Paso Fire Department for 29 1/2 years. He has worked in all ranks of the department and is currently the Assistant Fire Chief of Operations.

Chief Carmona was promoted to Deputy Chief in May 2008 and served as the El Paso City and County Emergency Management Coordinator.

On July 19, 2009, he was appointed to Assistant Fire Chief. Chief Carmona is a graduate of Bel Air High School and holds a Bachelors of Science in Business/Management from the University of Phoenix and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Texas El Paso.

Carmona will be filling for Fire Chief Otto Drozd who has taken a fire chief job in Florida later this month.

Six people had applied for the interim chief position.
