Morrissey kicks off 2014 in San Jose, stops show after audience invades stage

Morrissey is finally back on the road but it wasn’t without its hiccups.

He played in San Jose, Calif. on Wednesday night and threw in a handful of new songs off the upcoming “World Peace is None of Your Business” album. The album is set for a summer release.

By all published accounts he looked healthy and his voice was in strong form.

Several audience members stormed the stage, trying to give Morrissey a hug. He didn’t seem to mind the first few until some got rather aggressive leading him and the band to walk off the stage and ending the show.

Morrissey did not appear to be hurt during the audience invasion and no tour dates have been affected.

Morrissey will perform May 13 at the Plaza Theatre. It is the first time he has performed in El Paso since 2009.

Announced concert dates in El Paso in 2012 and 2013 were cancelled due to his mother’s illness and then his own physical ailments that forced him off the road completely.

In addition to this spring tour Morrissey also announced earlier this year that he had signed a two-album deal with Capitol Music.

He began recording his new album, “World Peace Is None Of Your Business,” on Feb. 1 for a July release date.

“World Peace…” will have 12 tracks with such titles as “Earth is the Loneliest Planet,” “Kiss Me a Lot,” and “Kick the Bride Down the Aisle.”

The album is beingproduced by Joe Chiccarelli, and is being recorded with musicians Boz Boorer (guitar), Jesse Tobias (guitar), Gustavo Manzur (piano), Solomon Walker (bass guitar) and Matt Walker (drums).

It’s his first album since “Years of Refusal,” which was recorded in 2008.

Morrisseyis quite familiar with El Paso having played four concerts here since 2002 and even doing a photo shoot here in the early ‘90s.
