Day 5: Body Clock

Day 5: Friday January 23, 2015

After a few days of getting up at 5 A.M. and driving in the dark, I decided to try and change my workout routine from early morning to afternoon — and boy, did it go badly.

Since Tuesday, I have been waking up at 5 A.M. and finishing my routine by 7 A.M. at the latest.

This morning I was having none of it and hit snooze on my alarm.

I decided to try my luck at an afternoon routine and on a Friday, no less.

As most Fridays go in my household, a lot of tasks must be completed — and I forgot all about that when I hit the snooze button.

That snooze came with a stiff price.

After work, I got home at 6 P.M., changed into my exercise gear and headed to Planet Fitness.

I got on my usual Arc Trainer, but it didn’t feel right.

I usually start with 30 minutes of cardio on the machine and do some assigned exercises.

But as I began I felt the weight of the day: my mind drained and my body tired.

My first minute seemed like an eternity and as I just couldn’t get my rhythm on the machine.

As I continued I didn’t feel that kick of energy I usually get when I do the exact same exercise in the morning. I was dragging and my body was not cooperating.

I needed to get my exercise in for the day so I powered through, completed the rest of my routine and headed home.

On my drive home I realized I was not cut out for afternoon workouts. I had to continue with my morning routine as it is what I feel will benefit me most.

I searched online and found out that I truly was a morning person because of my body clock.

Body clock. Did I really just say that? Yeah I did, and I meant it. (By the way I have never used body clock in normal conversation before so it’s just as strange for me to say it.)

I am an early riser — and there is nothing I can do about it.

I guess I won’t be hitting snooze on my 5 o’clock alarm ever again.
