Border Patrol agents seize more than $1 million in marijuana south of Lordsburg, NM

Border Patrol agents seized more than $1 million worth of marijuana south of Lordsburg, New Mexico this past weekend.

During the early evening of March 1, Border Patrol agents working south of Lordsburg spotted a vehicle travelling away from the border area.

The vehicle, a 2005 Ford F-350 driven by 27-year-old Luis Carlos Luna Marquez from Mexico, along with passenger, 41-year-old Luis Arturo Enriquez Espinoza, also from Mexico, breached the U.S./Mexico border, according to Customs and Border Protection officials.

With the assistance of an El Paso Air Branch, Office of Air and Marine helicopter, Border Patrol agents attempted to stop the truck.

The vehicle abruptly stopped, and the two occupants attempted to evade arrest by running into the desert, CBP officials said.

They were quickly tracked and arrested, and a search of the two revealed that Luna-Marquez had 2.2 grams of cocaine on his person, valued at $243.

Agents also searched the truck and found 1,607 pounds of marijuana, valued at more than $1.2 million. It was also discovered the truck was reported stolen out of Tucson, Arizona. The offenders and the contraband were transferred over to ICE/ Homeland Security Investigations for prosecution.
