Family dog found 1,500 miles away

A distance spanning nearly 1,500 miles. That is where the Carpenter’s border collie, Josie, was found after missing for 8 months.

Josie’s owner, Racheal Carpenter, said she thought their dog died.

“We kind of thought she had either gone off and died somewhere or was hit by a car and just hidden,” Carpenter said.

But the complete opposite happened. Josie was discovered nearly 1,500 miles away in Oswego, Illinois.

Katherine Manola, an Illinois native, is known for taking care of older dogs that do not have a home and that is exactly what she did when she saw Josie’s picture on the ‘Angels on Wheels’ Facebook page.

Manola picked up Josie and took her to the vet, they discovered her micro-chip and found her home all the way near Hatch, New Mexico.

After 8 months of not knowing, the Carpenters were welcomed with a surprise many hope for but never receive.

The Carpenter’s received a phone call and drove 20 hours through the night to retrieve 15 year-old Josie.

It is still unknown how Josie arrived in Illinois, but she is now back home where she belongs after a long journey halfway across the country.

“I wish had 10 more years with year but she’s had a good life and its good to have her home,” Carpenter said.
