Music lovers to get a taste of El Paso at SXSW

It is a big week for music lovers in Austin, Texas.

The Austin-based festival South by Southwest is in full swing, the nearly two-week festival that features music and film.

Local record store, Mother of Pearl Vinyl, is taking a taste of El Paso to the place known as the ‘live music capital of the world.’

Mother of Pearl is an all-vinyl record store that has been in business for about four months and it is now launching a record label featuring local bands.

Los Angeles-based band Part Time is part of Mother of Pearl’s 2015 SXSW Unofficial Showcase Friday.

The band’s members are originally from El Paso and they releasing their third album Friday.

Part Time was previously with a bigger record label before signing with Mother of Pearl.

Co-owner, Eddie Cepeda, said it is great exposure for El Paso music.

“It’s a huge party, it’s thousands and thousands of people from all over the world that go to Austin,” he said.

There is an additional treat in store. Mother of Pearl is taking about 400 orders of Chico’s Tacos to the showcase.

“We’re getting it unfried and we’re actually taking restaurant equipment up there and frying it ourselves. So it’s fresh Chico’s,” said Cepeda.

“We’re buying everyone lunch.”
