Las Cruces Police investigate Monday evening stabbing

Las Cruces Police are investigating a stabbing that sent a 33-year-old man to the hospital.

Sometime before 9 p.m. Monday, March 23, Las Cruces Police learned that a stabbing victim was transported to Memorial Medical Center by private vehicle and that gunshots were heard on Ash Avenue just east of Solano Drive.

The victim had multiple stab wounds to his back and left arm, and was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso. He was listed in stable condition Tuesday morning.

Investigators learned that the victim and a 27-year-old man were in a Honda sport utility vehicle when they got into some type of verbal altercation with other people believed to be in a sedan. The verbal altercation apparently escalated into a physical confrontation on Ash Avenue where the 33-year-old victim was stabbed.

The victim’s 27-year-old friend is then believed to have fired multiple rounds from a .45 caliber handgun. At this time, there is no indication that those rounds struck anyone or anything.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795.
