Mariachi Group: Mother’s Day is like Black Friday for us
Mother’s Day translates into big business for mariachis, with many bands serenading mothers nearly non-stop over the holiday weekend.
How popular are mariachis?
There are reports of bidding wars on Mother’s Day as families fight to book the most popular bands.
“It’s like Black Friday for Mariachis,” said Manny Gonzalez with Mariachi Los Toritos. “Mother’s day is extremely, extremely busy, beginning Friday all the way through Monday.”
Along the border and beyond, a serenade is the best way to honor mothers of all ages. “Mariachis are universal,” said Gonzalez.
This year, finding a mariachi along the border was especially difficult since Mother’s Day in the U.S. and Mexico coincided.
