Popular app causes concern for parents

An app that is gaining popularity among young teenagers is now causing concerns for some parents.

The app You Now allows users to live stream their location to anyone who has downloaded the app. The app does not require any friend requests such as Facebook, and viewing can begin instantaneously.

ABC 7 found young girls between the ages of 13 and 15 hosting live broadcasts on many different channels. Some girls even claiming they will ‘twerk’ for everyone watching if they receive likes.

Parents we talked to about the application were not pleased.

“You have predators out there that could probably take advantage of the situation and get that app and use it to facilitate,” one parent said.

Another parent also said they do not approve. “I wouldn’t be comfortable with anybody being able to see my daughter on social media without my knowing my permission.”

The app is available on the app store and can be downloaded free of charge.
