15 people used City of El Paso’s NO DUI program to get free cab ride home over Memorial Day weekend

Fifteen people who had been drinking used the City of El Paso’s NO DUI program to get a free ride home over Memorial Day weekend.

The City of El Paso expanded the program earlier this year to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Through an agreement withSunMetro andSunCity Cab Co. individuals that have been drinking and need a ride home may call(915) 212-7777to receive a safe ride home at no cost, according to a City news release.

Over the last two years, on average, El Paso Police arrested 200 individuals per month on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

The El Paso Sheriff’s Office made 360 arrests last year. That’s an average of about 30 arrests a month.

“Our law enforcement agencies work hard to keep our streets safe and we all need to do our part. If anyone has been out drinking, there is no excuse to get behind the wheel and drive – call 212-7777 and get a free and safe ride home,” Mayor Oscar Leeser said earlier this year.

SunCity Cab will provide the free safe rides and L & F Distributors will share the NO DUI program information with all of their clients.

If you can’t call the NO DUI program for a ride, call a relative or a friend for a ride home.

Over Memorial Day weekend, El Paso Police arrested 40 people for DWI-related offenses.
