Chihuahuas name former MLB player, Double-A manager Jamie Quirk new manager
The El Paso Chihuahuas have named Jamie Quirk the club’s new manager, promoting him from manager of the Double-A San Antonio Missions.
The Missions are the San Diego Padres’ Double-A affiliate in the Texas League.
Quirk spent 18 seasons as a cather in the Major Leagues with Kansas City and Milwaukee among several other teams.
Quirk played for the 1985 World Series champion Royals.
He is now in his 43rd season of professional baseball.
Before managing the Missions this season, Quirk led the High-A Lake Elsinore Storm to a 75-65 record and a California League playoff appearance in 2014. He has been part of Major League coaching staffs with the Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs.
“We look forward to welcoming Jamie to El Paso, and to sharing the amazing support Chihuahuas’ fans offer their team,” said MountainStar Sports Group President Alan Ledford.
“We are proud to have Jamie join the Chihuahuas and feel the special energy our fans provide at every home game,” said Chihuahuas General Manager Brad Taylor.
Quirk is expected to be in uniform for Wednesday’s game in Albuquerque. He is following Pat Murphy, who was named San Diego Padres interim manager on Tuesday.
