Woman forced out of home after fire in Las Cruces

A woman was forced out of her home in Las Cruces Thursday night after fire fighters say her house caught on fire.

Fire crews say it began around 8 a.m. on the 1700 block of Betty Circle when combustibles were left too close to a heating unit. They say the woman initially tried to fight the fire with a garden hose. She was able to escape along with her pets, but the home sustained heavy damage.

Damage is estimated at around $50,000. No injuries were reported.
