Retired Fort Bliss Soldier and combat veteran receives house

for one el pasoan in dallas friday evening. he was pulled on stage by grammy award winning country music singer darius rucker in front of thousands of fans. but its what the local veteran was awarded that will change his life.. abc-7’s jerry najera is live with the story: evan josie while on stage retired seargent robert somers was handed a key. it was a key to a home. a paid home- for him and his family to start a new life. country chart billboard buster daruis rucker swooned the crowd in dallas friday night. some let loose in thier country boots. but litle did one couple in the crowd know, thier lives were going to change forever. retired seargent robert somers and his wife perched over the crowd for a moment but they were called on stage. the couple was quick to take some selfies but they soon realized this was about something bigger. you see-the former combat veteran served in the army at fort brag-fort gordon and fort bliss during his tour in iraq he sustained injuries from a blast that left him with extensive nerve damage in one leg and a list of other injures not only physical but psychological. the military warriors support foundation along with wells fargo and other supporters gave him a key. the key would open the door to a newly renovated home-mortgage free. “they hav a heart for individuals that have served for this country and givin us our freedom” for somers he says its his wifed that carried him through the tough times. she was taken aback by the doantion. “it was amazing unbelievable just how the crowd supports normally people are jealous but the support for is at it’s high right now” for somers its an opportunity for a better life. “this is going t be everything for us its like a brand new start this is a great place for my kids to grow up in and somewhere we can call our own home this is amazing this is everything for our family” and somers says this donation will help him move forward. he says he’s going to school to be a culinary chef.
