San Jacinto Plaza expected to be completed this fall

Work on San Jacinto Plaza has been slow-going.

Work has started on the bearing of the utilities.

That was the subject of the change order approved by El Paso City Council last week.

Crews have also poured the concrete that will uphold the plaza’s canopy.

It’s the canopy that has been slowing things down because cables had to be ordered from Germany just for this project.

“It’s a specialized engineered project,” said City Attorney Sylvia Borunda Firth. “The cable is specific to what they’re trying to do. It’s a fairly complicated project. The canopy is going to be something like what you haven’t seen here.”

After the canopy is finished all that will be left is to install the lagartos and finish up the landscaping and amenities.

San Jacinto Plaza is expected to be complete sometime in the fall.
