26-year-old woman critically injured in Las Cruces head-on collision

A Dona Ana County woman is in critical condition at an El Paso hospital after an early-morning head-on collision in Las Cruces.

Las Cruces Police were sent to a two-vehicle crash in the 4200 block of N. Elks Dr. at about 1 a.m. Thursday, June 25.

A 26-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was driving a gray Kia Spectra when she was critically injured in the crash and transported to University Medical Center of El Paso. Police say her injuries could be life-threatening.

A 25-year-old woman who was driving a green Toyota pickup was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Traffic investigators say that the 26-year-old woman was headed northbound on Elks when, for some reason, she crossed into the southbound lane and struck the Toyota head-on.

Police say they believe the 26-year-old woman was not wearing a seatbelt and that contributed to the severity of her injuries.

Police say the woman was issued a traffic citation two days ago for not using a seatbelt.

No citations have been made in connection with the head-on collision.
