Will pastors perform gay marriage ceremonies?

ruling has the religious community in el paso divided. some churches and pastors will choose to perform gay and lesbian marriage ceremonies.. others will not. open that part of the story is developing now… abc-seven’s darren hunt is live at the courthouse. rick/ashlie, there were at least nine same sex marriage ceremonies performed by judges here at the courthouse today … i was in the courtroom for the first gay and lesbian ceremonies. judge carlos silva began the ceremony for yairo herrera and luke karam in his eighth floor courtroom by turning to the big crowd of media inside and saying, “welcome t this historic event.” a short time later, up on the ninth floor of the courthouse, aixa adame and lacey darcy tied the knot … with judge laura strathman performing the ceremony. as you heard, strathman said she felt judges should perform their duties without bias or prejudice regardless of their own feelings. churches, however, will look at this issue differently. i spoke to two pastors outside the courthouse today who offered their services to same sex couples who had come to get a marriage license. first baptist church pastor dr. david lowrie told me he will not perform same sex marriage ceremonies. i asked him what he would tell a same sex couple if they came to him. “i would just respectfully tell them my faith wouldn’t allow me to participate in that kind of wedding … i certainly don’t have anything against them personally.” “i know tha there’s a great divide in how different pastors … there are quite a few pastors now in el paso, the group has been growing that are for doing these kind of marriages.” whether you agree with the supreme court decision or not, everyone who was at those ceremonies inside this building earlier today agreed … we were witnessing history. rick and ashlie. darren, following this story all day just after the news broke. thanks for the latest.
