Sunland Park Council approves to accept a petition for annex

Santa Del Sol is an area located near the intersection of McNutt Road and Country Club Road.

A developer wants to build homes on about 230 acres of land but some Santa Teresa residents are concerned about future developments encroaching on their private roads.

A land owner asked for areas of land to be annexed by the city of Sunland Park.

The owner sent a petition to council members and council members voted to accept it. It doesn’t mean it’s approved.

The vote pretty much says Sunland Park council members accepted the future developer’s information. They’re going to take a look at it and send it to county officials for review.

But a Santa Teresa resident is saying a map given to the council and the public is incorrect and makes the petition invalid.

Kraig Carpenter a Santa Teresa resident is saying Sunland Park cannot annex areas of land in chunks. Saying it has to be in one piece or connected.

“Nothing changes in Sunland Park. You know it. They know the law, their attorneys are telling them it’s wrong it doesn’t matter they’re doing it anyway,” said Carpenter.

If the city wants to annex the land as a whole it would have to include Country Club Road in Santa Teresa which is a private road. Some residents don’t want that private road for public use.
