Main Street construction ending in October

The construction on Main Street is finally coming to an end. The project was supposed to be finished late this summer. The New Mexico Department of Transportation says delays extended it to October. NMDOT says cars have had access to businesses at all times along with signs directing them. Although some business owners on Main Street tell ABC-7 the detours and construction has had a major impact.

“The business community suffers the most when we have these kind of construction sites done but we just got to get them done in a fast manner where everybody can prosper,”Eli Guzman, a business owner on north Main Street, said.

“I think what people are really going to enjoy once is all said and done is its going to be a nice smooth road, great side walks, great signalization and lighting throughout that whole corridor which it didn’t have,” NMDOT spokesperson Bridgett Spedalieri said.

NMDOT says weather was a major factor in the delays.
