let’s get your first forecast with stormtracker dan martinez. “dead and buried somewhere in the desert.” that’s wha investigators say jenna farrey told them about her missing 5-month-old son — jackson. that was back in 2013. jenna and her husband jeffrey allegedly admitted they found baby jackson unresponsive and didn’t seek medical attention. investigators eventually found jackson’s body a few days later, near orogrande, new mexico. this video the night farrey was arrested and booked into the el paso county jail downtown. yesterday, jenna farrey pleaded guilty to one count of injury to a child. she’s been sentenced to 35 years in prison. court officials tell us she will be eligible for parole when she serves half of that sentence. meanwhile, jenna’s estranged husband — jeffrey farrey is scheduled to go on trial next month. jeffrey is charged with injury to a child by omission and could be sentenced to life in prison if he’s convicted. his defense attorney says that the jury reviewing jeffrey’s case will not know the outcome of his wife’s trial. meaning jeffrey could serve more time in prison than his wife the attorney also tells us the couple’s other son is now in the custody of jeffrey’s parents. customs officers say a woman was with her one year- old son and 16-year old sister when she tried to smuggle cocaine into the u.s. investigators say it happened thursday at the ysleta port of entry. a drug sniffing dog alerted customs officers to the truck. when officers searched it, they allegedly found more than nine pounds of cocaine hidden in the charcoal canister of the pick-up’s emissions system. the cocaine has an estimated street value of more than 300-thousand dollars. the driver — 21-year old jessica melissa garcia — is in the custody of homeland security agents. the county clerk denying same-sex marriage licenes remains in prison while couples are finally allowed to tie the knot. steve nannes has the details on this controversial story developing in kentucky. for the 6th time, james yates and william smith jr. walked into the rowan, county clerk’s office, hoping to get married. each of the first five times, they were denied. “hello. again” but friday morning, county official took their names… “make sure everything is spelle correctly” …and their money “$35.50” and certifi their marriage. “here’s your license. congratulations guys” this marriage was processed by deputy clerk brian mason … …while his boss, county clerk kim davis, sits in jail. davis has refused to issue licenses to same-sex couples, saying it violates her religious rights. the supreme court legalized same-sex marriage in june. on thursday, she was found in contempt of court. her lawyer says any marriage license that’s issued in her absense is, in davis’ opinion, invalid. he also says she’s prepared for a long battle. : she doesn’t know how long she is going to be here, but one thing she does know is she loves god, she loves people, she loves her job, and she can’t violate her conscience. so if that means she’s going to be here for a longer period of time, she’s prepared to be here. davis’ legal battle has sparked a national debate… her state senator rand paul says an exception should be made for her. kentucky) : “her heartfel religious conviction is that this isn’t the kind of marriage she approves of” meanwhile, for yates and smith jr, they say they’re ready to start their lives as a married couple. “we thought the long fight ha already been fought and it was done and it was for all americans to get married. it’s a hiccup. we’re just really right now just happy to finally get married and have it recognized here.” i’m steve nannes reporting. five of the six deputy clerks have agreed to immediately begin issuing marriage licenses to all eligible couples. the lone holdout is kim davis’ son… who will not face jail time or contempt charges as long as the other deputy clerks issue licenses. the mayor of juarez recently gave the order to remove campaign billboards put up by chihuahua congressman carlos angulo. why? the billboards show a man giving mexico’s president — the finger. we sat down with congressman angulo to talk about his bold campaign move. he is not happy with the way mexican president enrique pena nieto is running the country … and says he’s using the obscene gesture to shake things up! carlos angulo: “everybody has been quiet in the mainstream politics and i’m trying to make a different statement there. my party pan has been getting along and i disagree with that.” angulo — a member of the conservative pan party — is running for governor of chihuahua. his office replaced the billboards taken down by juarez’s mayor. the el paso coalition for the homeless estimates there are about 14- hundred homeless people in our city. nearly 350 of them are children. abc-7’s esmeralda ojeda shows us how the local school districts are making sure those children don’t fall through the cracks. it’s a story you’ll see only on abc-7. “nats “i think that the perception by most people in our community is that homelessness pertains to single men and even single women that we see panhandling on the street. and that’s not really the case at all.” rose lucero say homelessness can happen to families for many reasons — including job loss, surmounting medical bills, and even domestic violence. “it’s amazing how many people are on the verge on homelessness” the ones who ca be affected most by homelessness are school-aged children. just a few weeks ago, the salvation army sent 56 homeless children off to school. something that couldn’t have been done without the help of local school districts. “we’re constantly working wit families, especially those that come to a campus and say they need to withdraw their children. at the time, the registrars are asked to ask that family, where are you going, and why?” jones says students can fall behind up to four months in their school work because of multiple moves throughout the school year. besides being mandated by federal law to enroll children without proof of residence, districts must also provide transportation, regardless of where the children live. “we’ve bought children in fro as far away into our district, that live over in canutillo or out in fabens and san eli because the family feels its very important to keep that child stable in school” other service provided include mentors, tutors, and after- school programs. it seems to be working. at the salvation army, nearly all children have perfect school attendance. “children come into the shelter scared because there’s change. but once they get here and they start to understand a new routine, then in that regard, they start to feel safe again, and that’s the most important part for children. is that they feel safe again. that they know where i’m going to sleep tonight” jones adds that families have nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to displacement. she says parents need to be honest with the school about what’s happening at home, so that the school can better serve the child. still ahead on the borderland’s only weekend morning newscast… the yselta school district is pushing for a multi-million dollar bond… and hoping to put down something new on the field as a result. it is , right now we’ll take a live look at traffic this morning: stormtrack weather is next!
